When should we enroll for next year?
Enroll whenever you are ready to start planning your child's next grade level. Remember that it takes about three to six weeks to comfortably finish assessments and curriculum planning, and another two to eight weeks for books to arrive from catalogue providers. Give yourself the gift of time....
Is this homeschool program fully accredited and if so through which organizations or regions?
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy is an authentic homeschool program and not a correspondence school. Here is information about diplomas, accreditation, and homeschooling for college: http://staahomeschool.com/index.php/questions/235-faq-high-school.
Is St. Thomas Aquinas Academy Common Core aligned?
No, we are not Common Core aligned. Our program has always been, and will remain, classical in content and methodology.
How many hours of the day do you do the homeschooling?
For very young students the school days consist of at least 3.5 hours of academic activity and instruction. This grows steadily over the school years until high school which typically consists of at least six hours of academic activity and instruction and forty-five to sixty minutes a day of non-academic electives.
We recommend planning for 180 school days each academic year. Some states require fewer than 180 school days so always check with Home School Legal Defense Association to confirm the attendance requirements of your area.
"Although I included the STAA Study Guides with my enrollment, I'm not sure I really understand between purchasing the packet or "purchase just the individual guides you need." I suspect this will be determined during the advisor appointment, but could you please explain to me what the difference is -- and how it's determined? Also, I would like to order an additional copy of the High School Orientation booklet; please let me know best how to pay for this second copy. Thanks so much!"
If you would like a second copy of the 2015-16 High School Orientation booklet, please include a request for it when you submit the 2015-16 Course Registration form (this will eliminate the shipping cost for you).
Adding the STAA Study Guides to your enrollment application means that after the planning process with your academic advisor is complete, we will send [your daughter] a Semester 1 and a Semester 2 study guide. We encourage students to work out of a study guide that has all of their courses for the semester bound into a single book -- juggling separate study guide booklets for each course would be a hassle! That means that we will personalize the study guides sent to [your daughter] if she has registered for a unique set of courses. For instance, if she is registered for a different science course or adds an additional literature course, the semester guides sent to her will include those changes. If you had not added the STAA Study Guides to the enrollment application, it means that you would be directed to order the semester guides from the printer after the planning appointment....
