BOOKS AND MATERIALS

New St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism, No. 2

  • Author: Rev. Bennet Kelley, CP
  • ISBN: 089942242X
  • Supplier: Emmanuel Books

Catholic Book Publ., NY; 1962, 1969; Imprimatur; 264 pgs; 38 lessons; prayers; dictionary; index; appendices

We use this text for two years.  Progress through it in 20-minute periods, three to five days per week.
Read aloud all Scripture—the strength of this program this year (besides the formal grammar and logic modeled); this may take weeks for some lessons.  Take the time—it’s worth it!
Do the end-of-chapter discussion questions aloud, but have the student do the rest of the exercises independently after discussion of the lesson.
At the least, read/repeat daily the prayers and hymns found at the end of the chapters; at the most, memorize them.  (A happy medium: memorize some, using recitation and/or written tests to check mastery.  Don’t be afraid to trade off the written exercises in the worktext for written prayers and hymns.)
