This level uses the same format as Latina Christiana I.  One 30 to 40 minute instructional day weekly, and about 20 minutes of daily drill.

From the teacher manual:  “Latina Christiana is designed for parent, teachers and students who have no background in Latin or foreign languages.  It can be used as a self-instruction course for older students or as a teacher directed course for elementary students…the teacher can learn Latin along with the students…The thirty lessons are designed to be covered in one year, but younger students may require considerably more time and older ones considerably less.”

Their stated goals for the course are to 1) pronounce, spell and translate approximately 200 Latin words, 2) learn 20 practical Latin expressions and additional prayers, passages and songs, 3) define noun, verb and adjective and preposition; understand concepts of tense, number, gender; conjugate 1st and 2nd conjugation verbs in the present, imperfect, and future tenses, and 3rd and 4th conjugation verbs in the present and imperfect tenses; give principal parts for regular and some irregular verbs of all four conjugations; decline nouns in all five declensions; use 1st/2nd declension adjectives in agreement with nouns in all declensions; translate simple sentences with direct objects and prepositional phrases from English to Latin and Latin to English, 4) be exposed to many English words of Latin origin and use them correctly in sentences, 5)and includes a history section keyed to Famous Men of Rome which we recommend you skip since we study Roman history in the STAA program elsewhere.

For Week 1 of the year, Mom, use the class periods to read through the teacher guide information.  For Week 2 of the year, read through the informational material from the teacher manual with your students and prepare for the year’s teaching, together.  Week 3 of the year begin working the five-lesson unit, one lesson per week, as per the book’s suggested course plan, omitting the history exercises.  Use the week following the fifth lesson in each unit to review and test.  Then start the next five-lesson unit, and so on.

For quarterly reporting, enter the beginning and ending lessons you covered for the quarter.  For a work sample, copy the latest lesson or test and mail it to us.
